DON’T BE STUPID! (The Poke-in-the-Eye Devotional for 1/2/24

Be like the great men and women of old who read the Word of God!

John Quincy Adams, the sixth president, said:

“So great is my veneration for the Bible that the earlier my children begin to read it the more confident will be my hope that they will prove useful citizens of their country and respectable members of society. I have for many years made it a practice to read through the Bible once every year.”

Parents, make your kids read the Bible. It does not return empty. I paid my daughters $100 each time they read it through. Yeah. Bribe them!

Helen Keller: “Unless we form the habit of going to the Bible in bright moments as well as in trouble, we cannot fully respond to its consolations because we lack the balance between between light and darkness.”

Isn’t it beautiful that this blind woman could see so clearly?

Charles Dickens: “The New Testament is the very best book that ever was or will be known in the world.”

He knew little something about good books.

All these people loved, honored and read the Bible. Do you? Tell me your commitment!

Charles Spurgeon wrote, “As it is necessary to restore the body’s energy with frequent meals, so we must reenergize the soul by feeding upon the Word of God….

“How weak our spiritual gifts become when we neglect this means of renewal. What poor starving saints some believers are who neglect the diligent use of the word of God in times of secret prayer. If our spirituality can survive without God, it is not of divine creation, it is nothing but a dream.”

Don’t be stupid again for another year. Take up and read!
