️ The Poke-in-the-Eye Devotional for 1/1/24

LET’S READ THRU THE BIBLE AGAIN IN 2024!

What’s your daily devotional plan? Here’s mine:

I’m reading through the Old Testament, the New Testament, the Psalms twice, and Proverbs, using The One Year Bible. To do this, I must get up earlier.

I’ve made this commitment over the last several years: “No read, no feed. No Bible, no breakfast.”

The One Year Bibles are divided into 4 daily readings: Old Testament, New Testament, Psalms & Proverbs.

This is how long it will take per day to read the New Testament: 6 minutes.

Add Psalms and Proverbs, then it’s 4 minutes more.

Include the Old Testament, that’s an additional 15 minutes or so.

To get through the entire Bible in a year will take about 30 minutes a day.

“It is blessed to eat into the very soul of the Bible until, at last, your blood is Bibline and the very essence of the Bible flows from you,” wrote Charles Spurgeon (1834–1892)

Is your God worth it?

George Mueller, (1805–1898) declared:

“I believe that the one chief reason that I have been kept in happy useful service is that I have been a lover of Holy Scripture. It has been my habit to read the Bible through four times a year; in a prayerful spirit, to apply it to my heart, and practice what I find there. I have been for sixty-nine years a happy man; happy, happy, happy.”

Go deeper, higher, longer and wider with Christ this year.

Samuel Rutherford (1600-1661) wrote:

Trust God’s Word and His power more than you trust your own feelings and experiences. Remember, your Rock is Christ…every day we may see some new thing in Christ. His love hath neither brim nor bottom.”

Just do it. Read and feed, your only need.

** I started these daily “Poke in the Eye” devotions in August, 2022, based on whatever verse(s) “speak” to me as I read the Old and New Testaments, Psalms and Proverbs from “The One Year Bible.”

They are 300 words or less and take 1 minute, 40 seconds to read and will be published in 2024.
