Mark and Brett are friends of mine. I’ve served with them at a few Ambassadors’ Academies as leaders of various evangelism teams. They were arrested for reading the Bible at the Department of Motor Vehicles in California. (Read the account here.)

But there’s some good news to report. Last year, a man was arrested in a Sacramento mall for sharing his faith with patrons. A lawsuit was brought to bear. Here is the ruling from that affair from the Pacific Justice Institute:

What is it about the resurrection of Jesus Christ that makes non-Christians tremble in fear, distrust and continued disbelief? Why is this fact so controversial even though it was an actual historical event verified by a multitude of witnesses?

Edwards Cinema, a California theater chain, thought Compass Bible Church’s ad promoting a local Easter service was too hot to handle—and pulled the plug—even though there was a signed contract and thousands of dollars paid to run the commercial in it’s theaters. Here’s the reason why, according to Senior Pastor Mike Fabarez: “[They said] it uses the name of Jesus and so we’re not going to accept that ad.”

Pastor Fabarez offers further explanation.

“You can show movies and contract with movie companies and producers and show all kinds of things that use the name of Jesus in all kinds of pejorative ways and as expletives and everything else.

Lost Liberties: Student Forbidden to Share Faith at School

San Diego, CA – A former student at Gateway East High School of the Grossmont Union High School District has filed suit against GUHSD, saying he was disciplined and suspended for sharing his faith with fellow students and for bringing his Bible to school. The student is represented by Pacific Justice Institute.

The conflict for Kenneth Dominguez began when he returned from Christmas break in January 2010 and began telling his fellow students about his Christian faith. On several occasions he was reprimanded for doing so and eventually he was told not to bring his Bible to school.

Our Turn: Muzzled at the Muslim Festival

Last week our team visited the Arab-American Festival in Garden Grove. After watching the video of Christian evangelists in Dearborn, Michigan, who were arrested for sharing their faith outside the venue, we were wary of similar events happening to us.

Here are the reports from team leader “Righteous Richard” Chavarria, and team member Tony Yu. Make sure you read both accounts; they are encouraging.

From “Righteous Richard”:

All went well until the time just about 15-20 minutes after we entered the festival. It was at that time that I handed out a tract to an individual who told me that I needed to get permission to hand the tract.

So, I followed him to a person who’s title was Commissioner. After the Commissioner had a quick glance at the tract, he said I could not pass out the tract and order me to leave. He stated that he had paid $100,000.00 for permission to conduct a private festival inside the park.

At this point a gentlemen came up from behind me and put his hand on me forcefully as to push me away.
