Solomon Grundy Died and Went to…?

For homeschool, my daughters read this classic poem from an unknown author, which is actually a riddle. I asked my 8-year-old a very important question afterward. Read the poem to see if your answer is the same as her’s.

SOLOMON GRUNDY

Solomon Grundy,
Born on Monday,
Christened on Tuesday,
Married on Wednesday,
Took ill on Thursday,
Worse on Friday,
Died on Saturday,
Buried on Sunday,
This is the end
of Solomon Grundy.

The question I asked my daughter: Did Solomon Grundy go to Heaven or Hell? What’s your answer? Click to read my daughter’s answer. And find out why it is possible for a “Solomon Grundy” to live all this in one week.

More Weak, Wimpy—and Wrong—Witnesses

These items need no comment. Okay. I’ll use the comments that Alittleleaven.com provides: “If you think that wearing this hat to a biker event will cause men with names like “Snakebite” and “Mad Dog” to fall on their knees in repentance, then you’ve got another thing coming.” See more “Weak, Wimpy—and Wrong—Witnesses” starting here.

Sudden Death: Marathon!

Top distance runner Ryan Shay died during the U.S. men’s Olympic marathon trials Saturday after collapsing about 5 1/2 miles into the race. He was taken to Lenox Hill Hospital and pronounced dead at 8:46 a.m.. He was 28. Read the story from AP here.

Great Quotes: R. A. Torrey (1856-1928)

Never be ashamed of distributing tracts. Many people hand out tracts to others as if they were ashamed of what they were doing.
null People are not likely to read tracts if you hand them to them as if you were ashamed to do it; but if you act as though you were conferring a favor upon them, and giving them something worth reading, they will read your tract. It is often well to say to a person, “Here is a little leaflet out of which I have gotten a good deal of good. I would like to have you read it.”

R. A. Torrey was a Congregational evangelist, teacher, author, born in Hoboken, New Jersey.
