Hope Chapel, Hill Country? (“Moving On,” Pt. 3)

I just got back from a week-long trip with my wife to spy out the land of Dripping Springs, Texas, where I believe I am called to plant my church in the near future. (Click here to start at part 1.)

Dripping Springs is twenty-five miles from Austin, has a population of 1,800 and… fourteen banks! It’s called the Hill Country and 40,000 people live in them thar hills. One pastor said that if all the churches in the area were filled, they would still have 36,000 people without a church. My goal will be to start out with a hundred.

What type of people live there? Moral Therapeutic Deists. In other words, good people.

That’s the main reason I believe that God wants Hope Chapel Hill Country (HC2) in an area that already has about twenty churches: because no one is good enough to get to Heaven—and I’m not afraid to say so.

The conversation that motivated me to go can be found in part 4 by clicking here.

  1. Steve, we have a few contacts in Bourne, Tx. Austion, Tx. and a few other areas. Would like there names and contact info?? email me if so..

  2. Another Southern Baptist/ Conservative Christian Church in Texas? Trying to challenge 7-11 or Starbucks for most real estate share?

  3. You’re on my prayer list!

  4. “What type of people live there? Moral Therapeutic Deists. In other words, good people.”

But you always say there are no good people… Now you say there are good people in this area of the country??

Steve, make up your mind. Please.

  5. Wow!!! That was quite the story Pastor Steve after Crying all my way to work and feeling sorry for myself about shrinking another half an inch and gaining a few pounds from the Disney cruise. Leaving California will be hard leaving my daddy, my aunt and uncle, my church and many great friends is going to be hard did I mention my incredible dad. Yes, leaving the south bay will be hard, but God is in Control and He wants us to tell the Good News to new people. Kevin is doing such an awesome job especially picking out our new house and I am ready to make it our home. God Bless you and your family and I will see ya’ll in Dripping Springs

  6. Hey Steve! Checking out your new web site:

Looks pretty good! It’s a start anyhow.
