(Not so) Good Friday?

Carol Nicholson is a member of our evangelism team who is very bold in her witness. She sent me this report about a very scary encounter she had on Good Friday.

Yesterday was the worst persecution I have suffered for the Gospel since my salvation. Olga, another sister, and I went to the Redondo Beach Pier holding up a 6 foot cross with the words  “Are you ready?” written on it. What better time than Good Friday to pick up our cross and go explain the meaning of it?

As I was preaching and getting ready to read about the empty tomb and resurrection, a man came from behind me, grabbed the microphone from my hand, then yelled to the crowd blasphemous words, insults, mockery—all while denying God, even calling me a devil. Then he wrestled with me, trying to yank the bible from my hands. Since he could not, he started calling the police and 911, saying that he lived in the condos up the hill behind us, and we were disturbing his peace. He appeared to be under the influence of drugs.

I had a chance to read about the resurrection, but by then he was joined by an angry woman— twice as furious—and between the two of them, they went back and forth between Olga and I, cursing us and claiming that they were devils.

Answering the Protester

On Friday, I posted an email sent from a protester at the A.N.S.W.E.R. L.A. anti-war protest who didn’t care for the way our evangelism team shared the Gospel. His email is in black, my response in red.

On Saturday I went to the anti-war march in Hollywood because I am a Christian, and because Jesus told us blessed are the peacemakers for they will be called the children of God and to love our enemies and I don’t think that means except for the Taliban. But there seemed to be Christians counter protesting.

They weren’t protesting at all; they were preaching the Gospel. They weren’t angry at anyone, but declaring the Good News of Jesus Christ along with the standards by which they will be judged, The 10 Commandments.

Peeved Protester Ponders Preachers

Last weekend our evangelism team went to an anti-war protest to preach the Gospel. A few days later I received an email from a person who questioned our methods. Read what he/she said below, then let me know how you would have responded. I’ll share my response on Monday.

On Saturday I went to the anti-war march in Hollywood because I am a Christian, and because Jesus told us blessed are the peacemakers for they will be called the children of God and to love our enemies and I don’t think that means except for the Taliban. But there seemed to be Christians counter protesting. They were yelling into a megaphone and handing out tracts.People in the march were mostly just yelling profanities at them while the same people came up and talked to me and asked me about my sign which read “Who would Jesus bomb?” Which of those two ways of sharing ones faith do you think is more successful?
