Martyrs: Christian’s Hand Severed

The Voice of the Martyrs helps persecuted Christians around the world. One way is by making the plight of the persecuted known through the BE-A-VOICE Network. Here’s the latest report:

Eight assailants attacked a college professor and severed his right hand and part of his arm in Kerala, India. T.J. Joseph, a professor at Newman’s College in Thodupuzha, was accused of offending a group of Muslim students with some questions he included in a test. Due to protests from Islamic groups, Prof. Joseph was suspended from his job and apologized for his “unintentional error.” Still, he continued to receive threats.

Martyrs: Be-A-Voice Network

On Wednesdays, in addition to posting our weekly evangelism outings, I’d like to report on real persecution from fellow believers around the world so that you may advocate and pray for them. We take for granted the freedoms we have in America to live out the Christian life; others around the world don’t enjoy the same, some suffering great loss for Christ.

The Be-A-Voice Network is sponsored by the Voice of the Martyrs, a wonderful organization that helps persecuted Christians around the world. As a member of this network, I want to bring awareness to our brothers’ and sisters’ plight around the world. Please consider being a part of this network, too. I’ll provide the info for you at the end of the post. For now, here’s the latest bulletin:

CHRISTMAS ATTACKS

At least 80 people were killed Christmas weekend in attacks across Nigeria, including assaults against two churches. In Maiduguri, the pastor of Victory Baptist Church was dragged out of his home by armed men and shot to death.

Burning Holy Books

“Somchi” is an outcast in her village in Laos. Even family members have turned against her. And when villagers found a Bible in her home, they proclaimed, “We need to destroy it!” They believed the Bible was causing her mother’s illness.

“My villagers still hate me and mock me, like they mocked Jesus on the cross,” Somchi told Voice Of the Martyrs. “It is the world’s right to hate us or to love us. But for me, I will follow Jesus.”

In restricted nations around the world, Bibles are burned, shredded or confiscated every day. Those opposed to the gospel can destroy Bibles, but they cannot destroy the faith of those like Somchi.
