Hollywood Anti-War Protest 2011, Pt. 2: Signs of the Times

There were protesters of every color at last week’s anti-war protest in Hollywood: from the Green Party, to Code Pink to the deep atheist red of the Communists.  (Read part 1 by clicking here.)

And people were angry, I mean really, really angry!

But the evangelism team—and others of like mind—had a message of Hope for all those given over to their frustration, their angst, their hatred of the system, our government, Israel, capitalists, rich people, Bush, Obama, fossil fuel users, and, of course, war. Still, we were able to give them signs from God, signs that beckoned them, Come.

Though most were at war with God and were enemies with him in their minds through wicked works, we had a message that offered peace with him through his Son Jesus Christ, peace that surpasses all understanding, peace not as the world gives.

But the big question was this:

Evangelism and the Single Man

There’s room for everyone on our evangelism team, even single men….

Newcomer Greg had been hanging out in Huntington Beach with Ray Comfort, preaching with him on Saturdays but wanted to try something different by coming out with us to the Chinese New Year Parade in L. A.’s Chinatown. Having never “worked” a parade before, I charged him with an extremely difficult task: Hand out tracts to the “special” dignitaries that the married Christian men wanted no part of.

Greg, being a sensitive, godly, Christian man, was up to the challenging call, throwing all caution to the wind, willing to pick up his cross and follow Jesus.

The Unsung Heroes of the Parades

I don’t know if these guys get coverage when you watch the big parades on TV… but they get the loudest cheers from parade-goers as they meekly saunter by.

They don’t march, yet when they are applauded, they’ll sometimes stop, raise their hands, smile broadly and occasionally take a bow.

They are the necessary—and humblest—participants at the various parades the evangelism team visits, and, they too, need a Gospel tract.

Who are they?

MLK Jr. Parade, Pt. 4: When Good is Evil and Evil Good (Special “Atheist Tuesday” Edition)

It’s not unusual or remarkable that the gay pride contingent marches in nearly every parade that the evangelism team visits. We have no particular agenda for this group other than to get the Gospel out to as many of the members of this community as possible. (Click here to start at part 1.)

What stunned me was a comment made as I handed out Gospel tracts to the “Black and Gay and Here to Stay” crowd. One rather aggressive lady dressed in white started grabbing the tracts from the marchers. When I asked her why she was doing this she said,
