Famous Lost Words: George Carlin

(In light of Mr. Carlin’s passing on June 22, 2008, I thought it appropriate to run these quotes from him.)

“Religion has actually convinced people that there’s an invisible man living in the sky who watches everything you do, every minute of every day. And the invisible man has a special list of ten things he does not want you to do.”
“And if you do any of these ten things, he has a special place, full of fire and smoke and burning and torture and anguish, where he will send you to live and suffer and burn and choke and scream and cry forever and ever ’til the end of time! But He loves you!”

Here’s a few more:

“Frisbeetarianism is the belief that when you die, your soul goes up on the roof and gets stuck.”

“I’m completely in favor of the separation of Church and State. My idea is that these two institutions screw us up enough on their own, so both of them together is certain death.”

“If it’s true that our species is alone in the universe, then I’d have to say that the universe aimed rather low and settled for very little.”

(Unfortunately, I don’t think Carlin was a believer…)

George Carlin has some of it wrong. Some of the Ten Commandments: honoring one’s parents and observing the Sabbath. These are something to DO, not something NOT to do.

George needs to read about Lazarus and the rich man because George will be in the same boat with the rich man, then it’s to late.

People loved George Carlin because he was so bad?

In the world’s ongoing praise of their culture hero, high honor and glory given to Carlin is to be expected. What absolutely sickens my heart, however, is the undue praise and thanksgiving some “Christians” are pouring over this man on various “Christian” websites.

Carlin is being praised as a “great humanist”. (I call his term an “oxymoron”, with the emphasis on “moron”). And that is not to say I do not feel sorry for Carlin. I do. Especially now, given where he is probably beginning to suffer the eternal wrath of God he so often mocked. It has now been confirmed for him that there is a God and that He wasn’t joking.

As for the Christian Carnal Carlin Club: do they just slap their knees and guffaw at God’s Word in Ephesians 5:3-7 ?

“But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of IMPURITY, or of greed, because these are improper for God’s holy people. NOR SHOULD THERE BE ANY OBSCENITY, FOOLISH TALK OR COARSE JOKING, which are out of place, but rather thanksgiving. For of this you can be sure: No IMMORAL, IMPURE or greedy person – such a man is an IDOLATOR – has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God. Let no one decieve you with empty words, for because of such things, God’s wrath comes to those who are disobedient. Therefore DO NOT BE PARTNERS WITH THEM.”

I can understand immature Christians seeing not much wrong with Carlin’s legacy of so-called humor. Time spent in God’s Word and good, solid Christian teaching can turn their thoughts to godly ways. But for professing Christians who loved this herald of the devil, I strongly urge them, as it is written:

“Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; test yourslelves. Do you not realize that Christ Jesus is in you – unless, of course, you fail the test?” (2 Cor 13:5)

    Gladly,George Carlin mocks no more.

I guess “good/bad” old George knows the truth now!
Unfortunately it was too late for him. “It isappointed to man once to die, then the judgement.” Judgement falls hard on those who who refuse to see the truth, repent and fall into the hands of the Loving God…

i personally would never predict where a person is or will go after he dies simply because of the incident in the Bible…the thief on the Cross.

but johnny, unfortuately, george is already facing the Judge of the Universe, so, and i stress so, it might be too late for him.

i have seen alot of Christian postings regarding george carlin and no one can really say if he had received Jesus Christ as his Lord/Savior.

i love the thief on the cross because even the last will be first.

    just saying.

By accident I got into YouTube and it was George Carlin. So I began to watch it thinking he would be funny. I was a little shocked by how he was slamming religions, and then those who believed in God. But when he began putting God down and using the “f” word, I became furious. There are no words to express how I felt with the final blow as he raised his fist looking upward and told God to go and . . . Himself! If he could be on stage now, I wonder what he would be telling his audience.
