Author! Author? (Part 4 of “Preaching Jonathan Edwards”)

I was pleasantly surprised to read that John Jefferey Fanella, the author of the updated version of “Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God,” had read my postings about preaching that great sermon (read those articles starting here), and left a very nice comment.
Here it is:

Steve:

I was delighted to hear of your preaching Edwards’ “Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God” in your local church. I especially praise God that it resulted in conversions and kingdom fruit. It was a truly humbling experience to modernize the text for the sermon back in 1996. My desire was to see people converted through the sermon as they were in Edwards’ day. I cannot express the joy in my heart for the response you saw that morning. It’s interesting that the response in the first three times you preached was not as widespread. That in some ways parallels Edwards’ own experience with the sermon. We believe that he preached the sermon at least one other time in a different location, or something similar to it. But he did not have the same response as he did in Enfield, CT. This just reminds me that salvation is of the Lord. Thank you for your courage and your creativity. All glory to God.

John Fanella

Read about how an Emergent Church writer, author John Shore, responded to a not so flattering article that I wrote about a ridiculous book he wrote last year.
