Results-Oriented Evangelism

A little over three years ago, our church, with permission from The Way of the Master, printed up 2,500,000 million dollar bill Gospel tracts. During a recent inventory I’ve discovered that we have less than 750,000 left.

A little over two years ago we printed 206,000 Giant Hundred Dollar Bill Gospel tracts and now we have less than 39,000.

On occasion I am asked, “What results have you seen?”

Fair question.

Frankly, we have not seen a huge increase in attendance or new members at Hope Chapel despite the fact that we have handed out close to 3 million tracts (and these include our homemade tracts, too) over the last four years.

But we don’t worry about it. Why? We’re not responsible for the results. Nope. God is.

The Apostle Paul wrote, “I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God made it grow. So neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything, but only God, who makes things grow. The man who plants and the man who waters have one purpose, and each will be rewarded according to his own labor.” (1 Corinthians 3:6-8)

For that matter, I’ve rarely seen people repent after I’ve preached a sermon in the open air; and even those I’ve prayed for to receive Christ haven’t ended up in the pews. Yet.

And I’ve been sharing my faith nearly everyday since January 1, 2004!

As a CEO of a company I’d have been fired years ago…. What’s the point then?

GOD!

It’s all about faith in what He will do. I’m nothing.

Evangelists are no-thing. We water and plant the seed but God…God! causes it to grow.

I just want to be faithful and follow my marching orders: We walk by faith and not by sight.

Talk about frustrating!

We continue in obedience to “Preach the Gospel”. God remains in charge. Thanks for being such an effective CEO. Keep on preaching teachings and leading. Praying the the Lord will raise up many more who have this same mindset. It’s not about ME… All Glory to God Alone!

I have some sympathy with what you say. But shouldn’t we get at least some results?

…And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved.
    (Acts 2:47)

I want to persuade my church to take open air evangelism more seriously as we are not bringing many to faith. How can I demonstrate that it works?

    McMurdo,

You answered your own question: …And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved.
    (Acts 2:47)

It’s the Lord’s job to add; we just have to be faithful.

Acts 13:48: “When the Gentiles heard this, they were glad and honored the word of the Lord; and all who were appointed for eternal life believed.

That’s not none or some who were appointed, but all who were appointed believed. I also think about the man from George Street story. He witnessed for decades, and as far as he knew there were no results other than the fruit of his obedience.

    Thanks,
    Bill
