A hunter drowned in a frigid pond while trying to retrieve a goose he had killed. He apparently had problems after entering the water and called for his wife to get help. Firefighters and other authorities were unable to find the hunter but a dive team recovered his body a few hours later. —L.A. Times 1/5/09
