Reinstated at the College: Back to School!

After a very friendly and cordial conversation with the director of El Camino College’s Office of Student Development, the Hope Chapel evangelism team has been approved to share our faith on campus. (Read what happened here.)

The complaints, apparently, stemmed from some of the team members being a little too aggressive in their approach. I explained to the Director that that was probably true since a lot of the people who join us are just learning how to evangelize for the first time. I assured her that I will develop a policy to ensure that we, as ministers of the Gospel of Jesus Christ will indeed act like ambassadors of Christ.

“For we are taking pains to do what is right,
not only in the eyes of the Lord but also in the eyes of men.”
(2 Cor. 8:21)

I will publish our rules of engagement here soon.

      • Or, you can read between the lines. What we say to students is offensive and should elicit complaints. The message is harsh and gracious.

      • Nohm

But Steve, I hope you’ll agree that that (what you say to students is offensive) is not what got the complaint, correct?

It wasn’t that the message was harsh, it’s the way that the message was being given that was getting the complaint, correct?

Which has been my whole point all along; I have zero problem with evangelism, and my issue is with jerky evangelism, like the sign guys (e.g., Ruben Israel).

Yep… When it comes to Ruben, I’ll side with you! But I’m always very polite :<)

Steve, I’m glad that you got reinstated.

Every college campus needs a team of evangelists to stem the tide of evil liberal humanistic godless academics (academonics). You are on the front lines Steve and this is war for souls.

Or several classes could use it as a warning to students, “Use your rational mind and intellect kids… or else you might end up like Sign Guy and Friends….” =)

    Hey Vin:
Proverbs 14:12 reads; “There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way to death.” (ESV)

The man in question used his MIND to come to his conclusion! How will you end up; looks like your mind is leading you to the same place!

      Hi Steve L,

The Qur’an says that you should not believe that Allah has any partners. By worshiping Jesus, isn’t that what you’re doing? You know what the Qur’an says about people who do that?

Oh, wait, you might say I’m using scripture from an ancient holy book that you don’t find authoritative, right? Weird that I would do such a thing, eh?

      • Nohm

        Hi Steve L,

So, you agree that it’s very weird that someone would quote scripture from an ancient holy book to someone that doesn’t find that book to be authoritative, correct?

If so, then why did you do it?

Why don’t you people rent a storefront, advertise your religion, and just wait for those interested to scurry in?

Why must you set out to accost complete strangers (something that is considered rude, offensive, and even threatening in our culture)? Don’t you have any manners?

Why can’t you be decent members of society?

      Bl Quizno,

The American founding fathers were decent members of society and they evangelized the lost. Our best presidents and finest citizens are also and they evangelize.

Why be so narrow minded and trying to censor the truth? You are powerless to stop us good people. We have the US Constitution and God-given human rights. Thank God for our Christian American founding fathers.
