3 Day Evangelism Adventure: Fiesta Hermosa Time Again!

We have nearly 100 people signed up to work two—count ’em, two— evangelism booths just outside the Memorial Day Fiesta Hermosa. We are outside the fair because the organizers won’t allow us to walk around inside and hand out Gospel tracts, despite the fact that it is perfectly legal. And we will be there all three days, ministering God’s Word to the over 100,000 people attending.

We will be shuttle bus stop preaching, preaching on the Pier, street corners… everywhere the vultures gather. And we will hand out thousands of Gospel tracts, exercising our First Amendment rights to free speech, on the very public city streets, inside the fair.

Dear Pastor Steve, Just wanted to thank you for the wonderful class on Saturday and for teaching me the difference between the California Grace message that I was saved under (asking Jesus into my heart)
and showing me the rather unscriptural way i was believing.
I spent 2 hours at the booth at the Hermosa Fair Saurday and met a young woman who eventually gave her life to Jesus Christ , but only after she had been led through the law, and was broken about her sins before God, and showed repentance, it was so wonderful to see this young woman cry and experience the awakening of the thought that she had sinned, but was now saved, and why. I did not do the leading, one of the gentleman at the booth did, the guy you do this with all the time, do not remember his name, Ray? Had a hat on…I think.
Anyway, this was a young blonde woman in a bikini who had just two weeks prior thought she had become a christian because the church where she was just gave her this “feeling” . I don’t thinks she understands the meaning of “born again” but, i invited her to come Sunday night and join me at my table i am hopeing to begin a friendship with her, I encouraged her to go take Hope 101.
Your an awesome Pastor, God Bless you, Debra Flores

I want to go and learn how to do what the word of GOD tells us to do. I want to see it in action. I am always ready to give an answer and I go to every single one of our outreaches at our church but I want to do more. I try to live a life worthly of the call that GOD has put on me so that others might see him in me but I still want to do more. The time is short and I want to learn how to be a little bolder but not hurt anyone…I will be looking forward to the Fiesta….

    Blessings,
    Constance

    Constance:

You said: “The time is short and I want to learn how to be a little bolder but not hurt anyone…”

So glad to see that the Holy Spirit is convicting your heart to serve Him with a greater sense of duty in the spreading of the gospel truth to the lost for their eternal good and the glory of Christ. It is thrilling to see God at work in the hearts of His people that way!

If I may respond to the line I highlighted above from your post:

Pray! You want to learn to be bolder? Pray! One can ‘learn’ with the mind from good teachers all they want and that is to be encouraged. Do so by all means. But ‘boldness’ has to do with the heart. Pray for boldness, therefore, and God’s Holy Spirit will be glad to fill you with all the boldness you will need to do the effective work of evangelism.

I’m not sure exactly what you mean when you say you don’t want to “hurt anyone”. If you mean you do not want to ‘offend’ anyone, here is where your (prayed for) boldness will overide your sentiment. The gospel is guaranteed to offend many people. Most people, perhaps. The Bible makes that clear:

“For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.” (1 Cor 1:18)

Take courage. Know that God is with you no matter how negatively people might react towards you. The power is in the gospel message. We have no idea how God is working in the hearts of hearers even if they react beligerently. They could be ‘a work in progress’ under God’s direction and God is using YOU as His instrument to assist in the awakening of these people who are “dead in their trespasses and sin”.

Some may not like you because of what they hear from you or for that gospel tract you gave them. So what? What is important to remember is that you are obeying, honoring and pleasing God in this most important task. What matters is how God feels towards you, not mere man.

So let God’s Word further encourage you:

“But thanks be to God, who always leads us in triumphal procession in Christ and through us spreads everywhere the fragrance of the knowledge of him. For we are to God the aroma of Christ among those who are being saved and those who are perishing. To the one we are the smell of death; to the other, the fragrance of life. And who is equal to such a task? Unlike so many, we do not peddle the word of God for profit. On the contrary, in Christ we speak before God with sincerity, like men sent from God.”
    (2 Cor 2:14-17)

God bless you and all who learn and pray your way in answer to the call of evangelism with boldness and love in ‘SoCal’. I pray for boldness each and every time I go out “fishing’. Please pray for me as I pray for you. Praise God!
