A Big Heart for the Atheists

Since it is Valentines Day, I wanted to do something special for all my unbelieving friends. Here are a few things (25 verses to be exact) the Bible says about the heart. These tell a simple story about the heart. Please don’t just roll your eyes and wait for next Tuesday’s post.

Happy Valentine’s Day, from my heart to yours.

Psalm 10:13
Why does the wicked renounce God and say in his heart, “You will not call to account”?

Psalm 17:10
They close their hearts to pity; with their mouths they speak arrogantly.

Psalm 101:4
A perverse heart shall be far from me; I will know nothing of evil.

Psalm 7:9
Oh, let the evil of the wicked come to an end, and may you establish the righteous— you who test the minds and hearts, O righteous God!

Proverbs 11:20
Those of crooked heart are an abomination to the LORD, but those of blameless ways are his delight.

Isaiah 32:6
For the fool speaks folly, and his heart is busy with iniquity, to practice ungodliness, to utter error concerning the LORD, to leave the craving of the hungry unsatisfied, and to deprive the thirsty of drink.

Isaiah 47:10
You felt secure in your wickedness, you said, “No one sees me”; your wisdom and your knowledge led you astray, and you said in your heart, “I am, and there is no one besides me.”

Jeremiah 17:5

Matthew 15:19
For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false witness, slander.

Romans 10:8-9
But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart” (that is, the word of faith that we proclaim); because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

Matthew 13:19
When anyone hears the word of the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what has been sown in his heart. This is what was sown along the path.

Acts 8:22
Repent, therefore, of this wickedness of yours, and pray to the Lord that, if possible, the intent of your heart may be forgiven you.

    I hope you all get lucky tonight….

    by repenting, believing the Gospel and giving your hearts to Jesus.

    God will give you a new heart today.

    Ezekiel 36:26-27

    A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh. And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them.

    Weird that the Bible acts like the heart has impact on feelings and thoughts beyond giving blood to the brain. I mean, a lot of people thought that, but that was many many years ago, when the science was poor.

    It’s almost as if the Bible wasn’t influenced by an omniscient being at all, but just the people of the day…

    Yup. There’s a lot of silliness in the Bible. One wonders why you think it’s still applicable to the 21st Century.

    Exodus 4:24-26
    At a lodging place on the way, the LORD met Moses[a] and was about to kill him. But Zipporah took a flint knife, cut off her son’s foreskin and touched Moses’ feet with it. “Surely you are a bridegroom of blood to me,” she said. So the LORD let him alone. (At that time she said “bridegroom of blood,” referring to circumcision.)

    I mean, that’s just bizarre, right? But the Bible is strongly in favor of slavery.

    Exodus 21:20-21
    Anyone who beats their male or female slave with a rod must be punished if the slave dies as a direct result, but they are not to be punished if the slave recovers after a day or two, since the slave is their property.

    Escaping isn’t an option. Heaven is agin’ it.

    Genesis 16:8-9
    And he said, “Hagar, slave of Sarai, where have you come from, and where are you going?”
    “I’m running away from my mistress Sarai,” she answered.

    Then the angel of the LORD told her, “Go back to your mistress and submit to her.”

    And let’s not forget the strong family values supported by the Bible.

    Exodus 21:7-9
    If a man sells his daughter as a slave, she is not to go free as male servants do. If she does not please the master who has selected her for himself, he must let her be redeemed. He has no right to sell her to foreigners, because he has broken faith with her. If he selects her for his son, he must grant her the rights of a daughter.

    And this wasn’t just Old Testament stuff, either. Peter and Paul were both big on telling slaves to obey their masters and not act up. (Ephesians 6:5-8, 1 Timothy 6:1, Titus 2:9-10, 1 Peter 2:18)

    So, why does God love slavery so much? And how are my quotes less applicable to life these days than yours?

    Someone has a Bible.

    Jim you are on the road towards salvation.

    You have already:

    1. procured a Bible
    2. found a pastor (Steve Sanchez)
    3. found a group of Christians to talk to (Stone the Preacher)

    Now you just need to:
    1. read your Bible
    2. repent of your sins
    3. ask Jesus for forgiveness
    4. seek guidance and support from Christians like Steve and Richard
    5. start attending a church like Hope Chapel
    6. get baptized
    7. start street preaching and/or spread the Gospel in some way

    There is your road map Jim. You can thank me in heaven.

        For the record I think it was silly given no one has had a problem with the way you’ve used the previous hundreds of images in the history of this blog.

        For the record, I didn’t feel comfortable linking the person’s website who made the photo. I try to credit photos when possible. Mostly, I get them from WikiMedia so there is no problem. I just didn’t like the site where this photo was from so I deleted the photo. Hope that satisfies the Great Conspiracy Theory.

      Uh… sorry, Steve. Psalm 14 is attributed to David; the Gospel of Matthew, however, is commonly accepted to be Matthew (although experts suggest it was an Israelite at about the First Century), collecting the various logia – in this particular case, the Sermon on the Mount.

      So, Jesus just said that King David might very well be in Hell.

        You can call everyone and anyone a fool so long as that person is not your “brother”.

        Problem solved.

        In all seriousness, the Greek word being used in Matthew 5:22 is “moros” which in English is more akin to calling someone a “moron”.

        The follower of Jesus is suppose to resolve conflicts with others. If one person is angry with another person without a cause, how can anythign be resolved? If one person believes that the other person is a moron that seems to indicate that a resolution is unlikely.

        Aw, carl. I’m sorry you haven’t read your Bible, but perhaps you should just be quiet until you do. That is just a terrible, terrible argument.

        There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is no male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. (Galatians 3:28)
        See that? It isn’t even just Christians. “Neither Jew nor Greek.”

        The second is this: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” There is no commandment greater than these. (Mark 12:31)

        Do not rebuke an older man but encourage him as you would a father, younger men as brothers, older women as mothers, younger women as sisters, in all purity. (1 Timothy 5:1-2)

        A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity. *(Proverbs 17:17)

        On the other hand, I suppose it’s understandable that you’d grasp at straws to justify your continued attacks against everybody who doesn’t believe as you do.

    So by this logic I or any other person who doesn’t believe in the Judeo-Christian god (or the god of the moment) can do no good on Earth. I’m sorry but anyone who fails to see how obviously wrong this Psalm is, is VERY close-minded.

    To any readers who are interested in the truth here is how “the Interpreter’s One Volume Commentary on the Bible” explains Psalm 14.
    “The portrait of the wicked is sharply drawn. The Hebrew word for foolrefers NOT to to simpleminded people, but to coarse, brutal, self-centered rogues. They deny God NOT by intellectual argument [like atheists] but by a corrupt life.”

    Poor Steve still getting his interpretation of scripture the wrong way round because of his ego worship. Still twisting scripture to his own destruction. Never mind Steve & Carl. I’m sure you’ll suppress the truth in all unrighteousness & refuse to admit your error.
