Destinations: Hollywood Boulevard, where Spiderman was arrested

If it isn’t pouring down rain we will be headed to Hollywood!

I read this interesting article from the L.A. Times about Spiderman, one of the many characters who panhandle for change in front of Grauman’s Chinese Theater, getting arrested. Click here to read it.

The schedule when heading to Tinseltown  goes something like this: Our first destination is always Pink’s World Famous Hot Dogs, where we preach to the hundred or so people standing in line. Next we head up to Hollywood Blvd. and set up shop in front of Grauman’s Chinese Theater and preach to the people in the forecourt while handing out hundreds of Gospel tracts. We also do Stop Light preaching on the corners of Hollywood and Highland Blvds.

We pack up about 4:15, and time permitting, stop into IN N’ OUT Burgers and let Val Scott preach a mini sermon inside (he originated this technique). Next, we finish up at Pink’s again, where a brand new line o’ sinners is just waiting for an open air preacher to give them an eternal perspective.

Meet us at Hope Chapel at noon to carpool, or at Pink’s about 1:30, or Graumans about 2:00. If it’s raining, there is a Plan B.

Sharing Your Faith Without Fear,
our six week evangelism training class,
starts on Thursday, January 21.
Cost is only $10 and includes all materials.

Wow you witness to alot of unique people. I get the Southern Baptist Im saved line all the time out here. I would say it is easier to deal with a pagan or someone ignorant about the gospel than those that have had a taste of religion in a church in the South.

I couldn’t agree more. It is so much more difficult to talk to someone of a different denomination, faith, or belief because they are convinced, that they have found the “true” faith and that everyone else is wrong. Also, not everyone is willing to admit, even if only to themself, that beliefs they may have held for YEARS could be misguided or wrong.

SeedSower, does this logic (re. people being convinced of the correctness of their beliefs) apply to you as well?

If you say “no”, then you’ve explained why people can be so difficult to talk to…

    Whateverman,

Thank you for not disappointing me. I saw that response coming even as I was writing my remark. However, since I was commenting about Robert’s remark, I decided to submit the comment anyway.

But, this does give me an opportunity to respond to your question. Yes, it does apply. But, I base my beliefs on the Word of GOD, which says that all those who repent, confess their sins, and put their trust in Him, have His PROMISE of Eternal Life.

But, you agree that not everyone is willing to admit that beliefs, whether based on the Bible or otherwise, you may have held for YEARS could be misguided or wrong, correct?

And yes, I apply that to all of my beliefs and opinions. It’s how I deconverted from theism in the first place.

SeedSowerJoy, I know people of other faiths who would say the exact same thing; this leaves us in a bit of a pickle, so to speak. Lots of people are happy to exclaim their beliefs represent Truth, and none of them (including you?) are willing to consider that they might wrong.

It seems to me that you’ve provided the explanation for the dilemma you described.

    Nohm,

No, I don’t “have to agree” since you added the words “whether based on the Bible or otherwise”.(I agree with what I said.)

    Whateverman,

I’m really not “in a bit of a pickle”. I know who my GOD is, and what I believe and GOD cannot LIE.

He said, “Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter rthrough it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.’ Matthew 7:13-14

There are many religions and beliefs out there, but only ONE that leads to eternal life.

    SeedSowerJoy,

Are you saying that your religious beliefs are immune to being wrong? I only added those words to cover all bases, so are you suggesting that, if based on the Bible, that it’s exempt from your former statement?

It is so much more difficult to talk to someone of a different denomination, faith, or belief because they are convinced, that they have found the “true” faith and that everyone else is wrong. Also, not everyone is willing to admit, even if only to themself, that beliefs they may have held for YEARS could be misguided or wrong.

In other words, does that apply to all people, or just people who don’t have the exact same religious beliefs as you do?

For the record, I didn’t say you had to agree, and I definitely didn’t say “have to agree” (which is what appears to be your quote of my statement). I was simply asking if you did agree.

    Lastly, you said:

There are many religions and beliefs out there, but only ONE that leads to eternal life.

Again, I ask, based on what you said with “not everyone is willing to admit … that beliefs they may have held for YEARS could be misguided or wrong”, do you apply that to your “There are many religions…” statement also?

By the way, this is completely untrue. Islam, for one, promises eternal life, and its adherents certainly believe that it leads to eternal life.

    Nohm,

Then I will clarify what I meant, “there are many religions and beliefs out there, but only ONE leads to eternal life WITH GOD-which is really the only eternal life there will be.

Unless those of the Islamic faith confess your sins to GOD, repent , and PUT their TRUST IN GOD, they will NOT have eternal life-no matter what Islam, or any other religion,”promises” them. Again, refer to Mattew 7:13-14.

That’s exactly what muslims do, SeedSowerJoy. The Shahada is exactly for that.

Also, when you have a chance, I’d be interested in your response to the questions in my 1/25/2010 5:24pm post in this thread.
