What’s Your E-vangie Tale #31

The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor. (Luke 4:18-19)

Here is the latest evangelism class. They are ready and willing to do what Jesus said he would do. Who will be in the picture at the end of the six week course? We are now entering into the fourth week and have seen a few drop outs already….

This is the place for you to write your own evangelistic adventure whether you are in my class or not. I may even publish it on the blog if it’s really exciting or funny or horrible!

    What’s up Crew!
Today I learned that I not quite as brave as I thought I was. I took my tracts to my gym where I work out during my lunch hour. I gave one to this old Jewish gentelman. I force him to ride the stairmaster with me every day. He was really hoping the money was real! He thanked me and put it in his bag. I also gave one to a girl I play racquetball with on occassion. I invited both of them to Sundy service also. She thanked me also. She told me that she hadn’t been to church since she was a little girl and said she’d come. That would be great!

Tonight I went out to supper with my family and gave a curved illusion tract to the waiter. Then I went over to Lowes and left a couple of crumpled money tracts in front of the entrance and exit doors (they were gone when I left). I also gave a MDB tract to the cashier on my way out. I capped off my mini adventure with a trip to the local Ralph’s. I parked at the far end of the town center and left crumpled money tracts on most of the park benches and in front of the store doorways on the way to Ralph’s. On the way back to the car most of the tracts had been picked up!

    Pastor Steve,
I ventured out today with Eric to the Redondo Pier. My first contact responded very negatively with: “Get away from me, I’ll call the police!” OK _ moving on then . . . Mostly I got rejections where people would not even take the tract. Two of the ladies who refused said, “There’s a catch to it!” I said, yes there is, Jesus wants to catch you . . . The weather was as cold as the people. I had one nice conversation with a lady from Reno, Nevada. I’ve been there before so we talked about Tahoe and then I gave her the tract not pushing for any response since I wanted_ finally _ to leave this soul on a positive, friendly note! I guess this is a typical day for the first-time offender . . . oops, I mean evangelist! But here’s something funny, look at my eyes in the upper left hand corner . . . the light is shining _ I just can’t understand how anyone else can’t see that!

I go to the Coffee Bean in downtown Manhattan Beach every day, so I’m pretty familiar with everyone that works there. Recently I learned that one of the baristas, Jon, is a Christian also so we’ve been talking lots about our faith the past few weeks. I told him about the evangelism class on Thursday and invited him to come but he was bogged down with homework and couldn’t make it. So today when I went in I told him about how I had to give out at least one million dollar bill a day so I gave him one and told him what it was about. He read it and said that he’d seen it before and he had heard some man speak about the use of gospel tracts. I asked if the man had a New Zealander accent and he said yes and that he had indeed heard Ray Comfort! He even said that Kirk Cameron was there 🙂 Jon proceeded to give the million to my other friend and Coffee Bean employee R.J. who smiled and was very excited because he said no one had ever given him a million dollars! “Not even my own grandma!” said R.J. I told him I loved him a lot and that he was worth every penny. Jon and my unsaved friend Jessica are coming to Joey and Asha’s new mini church so I’m extremely thankful to God for all He did today 🙂

This morning, I was joined by five fellow evangelists from my home church. We had a really great time of prayer and then loaded up backpacks with tracts, bibles, and SCCA Easter invitations and headed down to the parade. We got there by 9:45 which gave us a good hour before the parade started. We handed out ~1000 tracts and many bibles and invitations. These were all very well received and blessed many. Please pray that God would use these seeds to bring many to repentance and faith in Jesus Christ!

Yesterday (Sunday) I had the best of intentions of getting at least a couple of tracts passed out but by the time I put my head on my pillow I realized I had fallen short! So, today, even though I won’t be going out with my regular Monday night team from CCCM, I made a point of stopping by the Aliso Viejo Town Center to pass out some tracts. I gave one to the cashier at Staples, one each to two employees outside and one each to two girls who were hanging around. All tracts were well received! Soli Deo Gloria!!

Wow, these tales are so encouraging! I’m planning my next fishing trip now.

Today I stopped off at Staples again to get a custom stamp made to put a contact email address on the bibles I hand out. While there I handed MDB tracts to everybody who helped me. Nobody stoned me, or cursed at me, or even looked at me weird. 🙂

People love these MDB tracts and I know God uses them!!

I needed some guitar picks and sleeves for my in-ear-monitor ear buds so I stopped by the Guitar Center in Fountain Valley. I gave a MDB tract to the tatto-covered teen who rang up my items. He didn’t eat me for dinner, but rather smiled and said “Wow, thanks!!”.

Yesterday afternoon I hung out at the Redondo Beach Pier after work while waiting for 7pm to roll around. I passed out several tracts. This is definitely a very friendly environment to share the gospel!

Me and my wife went out for a romantic anniversary dinner tonight. I gave our waiter a MDB and he said he received one already at the parade last weekend from one of our team members! Very cool!!

Sunday after church I went down to the San Juan Capistrano train station with tracts in hand. There were a lot of folks hanging around and I was able to hand out several tracts. I also walked around the block and handed out tracts and Easter invitations and these were all well received.

Today I stopped by the Aliso Viejo Town Center to hand out some tracts and ask the million dollar question. I handed a tract to one man sitting on a bench and a cart-collector guy said “hey, I’d like one of those too!”. So I handed them both tracts and asked the million dollar question… “If you died today, would you go to heaven?”. I encouraged them both to make sure they know for sure and urged them to read the back of the tract.

    Easy as pie!

Last night I once again went to the Redondo Beach Pier before class to do some witnessing before class. The people certainly are friendly and open at this location. I passed out many tracts and engaged the man who works at the Kona Coffee shop in conversation. They sell an “Obama” blend and I just happened to bring an Obama MDB which made a great conversation starter. Soli Deo Gloria!!

On Friday, I joined the Hope Chapel Hermosa Beach evangelism team for some witnessing at the Redondo Beach Pier. We passed out lots of gospel tracts and had a few one-to-one conversations.

I had a conversation with a Jehovah’s Witness couple. They wouldn’t stay long enough to hear the gospel, but I gave them a clear presentation of God’s law. I posted a recording of this conversation on my blog here:

Last night I went to see the movie “The Cross” about Arthur Blessitt. I gave a MDB tract to the lady at the ticket booth. She thought it was “cool”, even after I told her it was a gospel tract! 🙂

It was a great movie too. I have never heard of Arthur Blessitt before but WOW, this guy is on fire for God and VERY BOLD in his witness! I was bummed that there was no mention of the law, hell, or the coming judgment in his gospel presentation but I left the theater encouraged to be more bold and obedient to the call of the Great Commission myself.

Yesterday, before heading to church, I drove over to Mission Viejo to the corner of La Paz and Marguerite where I knew there would be several hundred people protesting at Mission Viejo’s Tax Day Tea Party protest. I thought that this might be a great way to get the gospel message in people’s hands in the form of million dollar bill gospel tracts. You can read about it here:

Yesterday I joined Pastor Steve at Leuzinger High School. We passed out many tracts (big money, 3 dollar bills, tickets to heaven) and preached the gospel at the stop light. My heart broke for a young girl who started blaspheming God’s name as soon as I mentioned the 3rd commandment. She didn’t stop until the light turned and it was time for her to cross. Praise God for amplification!
