Thunderf00t Speaketh

A little context is needed for this one…

Way back in November, a couple of weeks after the extremely successful “Origin of Species” book giveaway at hundreds of universities around the country, (this being the infamous book by Darwin with the even more infamous introduction by Ray Comfort, which contains the Gospel), I posted an interview called “Ray Comfort Thanks the Atheists” that got picked up by a semi-famous, YouTube-posting atheist named Thunderf00t.

Thunderf00t edited his own video that received over 323,000 viewings called “Why do people laugh at creationists (part 31)” that featured my interview. I was excited about this because it brought numerous atheists/evolutionists to StoneThePreacher where they might read the Gospel and believe.

Well… guess who commented a few months after I posted this article? None other than Thunderf00t himself. I was honored to have a semi-famous, YouTube posting atheist write a wise, thought-provoking comment. Here it is:

and for this you gush thanks for helping ’spread the gospel’. Yeah sure this is an advert for the bible like the hindenberg is an advert for hydrogen powered zeppelins….. 300,000 of them…..

However as you seem intent ‘thanking’ me for the publicity, Im only too happy to give you what you lust for. – Everyones a winner! 🙂

My response: Yep, Thunderf00t, that success and $2.05 will get you a Vente at Starbucks. Keep up the good work!

My thoughts are that we don’t lust for publicity, we just praise God for the various methods and mind-blowing ways He uses to spread the gospel we preach.
Isn’t it awesome that an atheist is using youtube to proclaim the gospel, indirectly, to BathTub, ExPatMatt, and other beloved unbelievers who avidly read this blog?
God’s sovereignty is, well, you’ll just have to read the Bible, turn from self-worship, and surrender your powerless soul held in bondage to sin to see how awesome God’s sovereignty is… and then there’s also the divine attribute “propitious” if you care to investigate

I don’t get it… what “success” are you referring to with “Yep, Thunderf00t, that success and $2.05 will get you a Vente at Starbucks. Keep up the good work!“?

    Thunderf00t Speaketh . . . and Steve Replieth With a Childish Insult.

What’s your success rate with that evangelism tactic, Steve?

To Peter: Bingo! That’s it by Jove!

To Nohm: The success of having so many comments made to his video, and the number of viewings. Man, I wish one of my videos would get 300,000 views. All those people exposed to the Gospel! Thanks for asking. I want to be clear, not confusing.

To Weemaryanne: C’mon, Wee, where’s your sense of humor?

To ExPatMat: ExPat: I’m on vacation and wanted to write something short—and provocative. 🙂 Also, I like to revisit past adventures to expose newcomers to the things we do as an evangelistic team. And, I wanted to have a little fun with Tfoot’s comment, since it was a bit boastful.

Yes, there is a method to my….

    Peter,

“God’s sovereignty is, well, you’ll just have to read the Bible, turn from self-worship, and surrender your powerless soul held in bondage to sin to see how awesome God’s sovereignty is”

I don’t worship myself, I see no evidence of souls and I don’t recognize the concept of ‘sin’ as having any special significance. You’ll have to sort all that out before we even begin to talk about God’s sovereignty!

    Steve,

Good to know. Have you had any further thoughts about the whole elephant–>man evolution thread? I think you said you were contacting someone to learn more…

    Cheers,

I repeat: What’s your success rate with childish insults as an evangelism tactic, Steve?

Now you can ignore me, or you can attempt to answer my question. Don’t try to do both at once.

As for my sense of humor, you may rest assured that it is in far better condition than yours.

About the pic, did Ray interview Thistlefoot? I’d like to hear that if so.

    Vole,

Thunderf00t and Ray had a ‘discussion’ that is available on Thunderf00t’s Youtube channel – just do a quick search for Thunderf00t & Ray to find it.

    Thistlefoot, HAHAH nice one MAL!

Yes Ray was eventually shamed into a discussion with Thunderf00t. It’s quite a funny story.

TF put an invitiation on Ray’s blog (because Ray doesn’t like people contacting him directly) including the note ‘if you don’t want to, don’t publish this message’. Ray unfortunately didn’t read it properly and published it with no response. So of course everyone saw the offer and asked Ray about it.
After initially ignoring it he then demanded TF pay $100,000 for it, but after TF posted on his channel about Ray’s demand the backlash caused Ray to back down.

You can watch the discussion with Ray on TF’s channel or buy a copy from Ray.

My answer: My success with, as you say, “childish insults” (I prefer the kinder, “gentle, humorous poke”) is zero. But the use of such a method as bait is quite successful, thank you very much! 🙂

Bait that doesn’t bring in a fish also has a success rate of zero.

Then there’s your “atheist test” which you admitted also doesn’t work. (“But it MIGHT work. On someone who already believes in a creator, that is….”)

Steve, you’re an heir to a two-thousand-year-old tradition. Somewhere in the history of evangelism someone must have come up with techniques that work. I recommend that you find out what they are and stop wasting your time.
