Famous Lost Words: Joel Osteen

Two days before Christmas, the best-selling author and pastor of the largest church in America made an appearance on Fox News Sunday with host Chris Wallace, where he was asked about the role of religion in politics. More specifically, Osteen was asked about the Mormon faith, and whether a Mormon could be classified as “a true Christian.”

null “In my mind they are,” Osteen said. “Mitt Romney has said that he believes in Christ as his Savior, and that’s what I believe. I’m not the one to judge the little details of [Romney’s religion], so I believe [Mormons are Christians] and Mitt Romney seems like a man of character and integrity to me and I don’t think anything would stop me from voting for him if that’s what I felt like.”

A glaring testimony to Joel Esteem’s view on this and many other of his outrageous spiritual guffaws are found in the first three words of his response: “In MY mind…”

“The sinful mind is hostile to God. It does not submit to God’s law, nor can it do so.” (Romans 8:7)

Well, that’s just great! Thanks Joel. And I even enjoyed his book… This compounds the statements he made on Larry King Live right? Mormans are Christians?!! Maybe some who claim to be morman, and have repented of their sin and accepted the Saviour, but do not understand some of their core beliefs, can be Christian; but how many of them can there be? Mormonism teaches satan is the “spirit brother” of Christ. On the back of a mormon statement of faith I once read, “we reserve the right to worship God in every way he reveals himself to the world.” In the book of mormon it teaches that in some cases, children are “born again” from birth. Not to mention the core belief that one day [if they do right] they will turn into a God almighty themselves. How’s that for a motivation to get saved?! I’d like to know if Joel even knows what they believe at all. If he doesn’t, he’ll be making another public apology soon… but this time he may lose a good number of his congregation, apology or not. I just threw his book in the trash, and I pray he doesn’t do any more damage to the Body.

What could I say… you were right Steve.

I hope Osteen loses ALL of his congregation to the TRUTH. In their loss they would gain eternal life through Christ and Christ alone. The 7 steps to happiness would not ever be able to attain that for anyone. Repentance and faith, however,……

“What is more, I consider everything a loss compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them rubbish, that I may gain Christ and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ – the righteousness that comes from God and is by faith.” (Phillipians 3:8-9)
