Evangelism Adventures for May

May 5: Cinco De Mayo @ Olvera Street. Meet at Hope Chapel at noon to carpool.

Do you know the history of Cinco de Mayo? Read this interesting bit of history then see what we have scheduled for the rest of the month of May:

Most people don’t know that back in 1912, Hellmann’s mayonnaise was manufactured in England. In fact, the Titanic was carrying 12,000 jars of the condiment scheduled for delivery in Vera Cruz, Mexico, which was to be the next port of call for the great ship after its stop in New York. This would have been the largest single shipment of mayonnaise ever delivered to Mexico. But as we know, the great ship did not make it to New York. The ship hit an iceberg and sank, and the cargo was forever lost. The people of Mexico , who were crazy about mayonnaise and were eagerly awaiting its delivery, were disconsolate at the loss. Their anguish was so great, that they declared a National Day of Mourning, which they still observe to this day. The National Day of Mourning occurs each year on May 5th and is known, of course, as…Sinko De Mayo.

Here are the rest of the events:

May 12: Redondo Beach Pier

May 19: Torrance Armed Forces Day Parade

May 20: Long Beach Gay Pride Parade

May 26-28: Fiesta Hermosa

Nameless, I’m surprised you were actually taken in by this. 🙂 I’m very proud of myself that you had to confirm this. What clued you in that this was a shaggy dog story?

Actually, I’d heard it before, with the Snopes link in place. So I just googled it and posted it. 5 whole seconds of work, basically.

Steve, having Nameless taken in by the story is different then having Nameless think you were taken in by the story. The punchline should have made it obvious, but you’ve passed along a few other bits of wrong information as if they were true.
