Destinations: 3rd St. Promenade

Santa Monica is a strange place; it’s next to Venice Beach, and everyone knows that Venice Beach is very weird. The ironies are delicious. You have the super-rich protesting everything, while the homeless are on nearly every corner. (Satirist Harry Shearer says this as a sign-off line at the end of his radio program: “Le Show originates from Santa Monica: Home… of the homeless.”)

The 3rd St. Promenade, in the heart of Santa Monica, has thousands of visitors everyday, each with a different belief system on why humans exist—and it makes for a great day of sharing the Gospel. Meet at Hope Chapel at noon to carpool.

Below is a video featuring a very sad tattooed man named Lester. Surprisingly, he was very receptive to the Gospel.

Next week: The Fiesta Hermosa

    Steve:

That was a wonderful exchange with Lester. The compassion you had for him in your heart was made evident in your voice and the warm way you conversed with him.

Thanks for that. It really struck me and I will pray for Lester.

I don’t see the irony of rich people protesting. Do you not expect the wealthy to protest?

The irony: Rich people protesting, usually against inequity and for social justice, while living in an area known for its homelessness. Just interesting. And sad.

I love it when you said, “have you thought about God’s love for you?” There is really no other way to share the gospel effectivly than the way we are doing it. The Law makes way for the love to be accepted. To everyone here, I have been watching Steve preach for almost 5 years on a weekly basis, and every time, even when he shouts there is love in his tone of voice. Love does not mean we never say anything offensive, it means being willing to say whatever it takes to make people see, and you can do it with gentleness and respect even shouting in open air.
