Billionaires, Big Bucks & Broncos!

I needed to get the money shot….

My wife had only one request when my daughters and I attended the 2011 Tournament of Roses Parade: Get a picture of the Mustang Monument float where Madeleine Pickens, wild horse advocate, was riding.

My wife has been concerned for awhile now about the plight of the wild horse population in the States. The Bureau of Land Management has been systematically eradicating these great symbols of the American West to the point where there are very few of these beautiful creatures running free. Madeleine has been trying to bring an awareness to this cause using many methods, one of which was to sponsor a float that championed wild horses.

Who’s her husband? T. Boone Pickens, oil magnate and billionaire, who finances this worthy cause and many others. The challenge? Get our Giant Money Gospel tracts into their hands, along with a few million dollar bill tracts, take a picture and tell them we are praying for them. Did we do it?

My girls and their friend Amy were poised and ready for action. “There it is, girls!” I shouted.

“Awww, Dad. That’s not it.”

“Wait! There it is, now!”

“No, Dad.”

(I didn’t see the float ahead of time, so I didn’t know what it looked like.)

“There it is! There it is!” I yelled again. This time I was right.

The float actually stopped right in front of us, giving the girls time enough to run into the parade and give out their Gospel tracts.

After a quick mix up, we asked the lady in blue if she was Madeleine? She pointed to the woman in red. “That’s her.” And there she was, sitting right next to her husband, T. Boone.

You’re probably wondering: Did we get the money shot? You bet. My wife was so proud of me.

Who knows? Maybe they’ll read that precious gospel money and turn to the Lord fully. Then, not only will they use their God-given resources to save horses… but people, too.

I watched the parade on tv. Yes, this was a very beautiful float. Thank you for drawing to my attention about mr. & mrs. pickens. They are very lovely people, and they do have other peoples interest at heart. Our Lord Jesus draws people together from every walk of life. I pray that many hearts will be softend, and that many souls will come to the Lord. May God bless you and yours. brother larry

Ironically, I’m actually working on a project that’s funded by donations from T. Boone’s organization to help kids with developmental disabilities. So in a way he already is helping his fellow man, but then again that won’t save him right?

Steve, I’m surprised I did not see you guys. Couple brothers and I were there at 6am. We walked the entire Colorado Bl with the cross, proclaiming the Gospel, and taking turns open air preaching. We left just before the parade started, about 8:30am, intending to go evangelize some more at the Rose Bowl. We were following the line to get on the free shuttle buses, when Tots said, ‘Hey Carol, why don’t you start open air preaching right here”! There were thousands of people, so I did. Then we realized we did not even need to hop on the bus to go to the Rose Bowl. As we progressed to the end of the block, we realized there was another line with great multitudes, as far as the eyes could see. Even though every 10 minutes or so several busloads of people were picked up, the line never diminished, All three of us took turns open air preaching until about 1:30pm, when the Parsons security finally called the cops, convincing them that they own the sidewalk, and wanted a citizen’s arrest. By then we decided we’d had a full day’s work, so we left peacefully. One of the Security claimed to be Christian, while another said he is athiest. Nevertheless, tens of thousands got to hear the Gospel, and that’s all that matters. Praise God!

There’s certainly do denying that they got their MDB of a kind they’ve never seen. I pray that they read it!!! I love that you get them to pose for a picture with the girls 🙂 You’re a blessing Steve!

I can’t wait to see the white horse that Faithful and True, the Word of God, the King of kings and the Lord of lords will be riding on that great and terrible day. THAT will be some horse!! (See Revelation 19:11-21)
To vintango2K: No amount of Boone’s philanthropy will buy his way into Heaven. If he remains unrepentant of his sins and self-righteousness on this side of the grave, he will have to meet the rider of the horse mentioned above as his Judge. It won’t be a pleasant meeting for him. And mercy unattainable.

You’re right Paul, I guess its just better for him to keep all his money and just trust in Jesus Christ as his savior since faith alone is the only qualifier for heaven entry.

I got it Steve! Jesus can forgive T. Boone’s greed, if he wants to horde his money then its okay as long as he accepts Jesus as his personal lord and savior. No works necessary! Doesn’t seem to stop him from helping his fellow man however, really odd that.

Faith alone, yes, as the Word of God teaches:
“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith – and this not of yourselves, it is a gift of God – not by works so that no one can boast.” (Ephesians 2:8-9).
Do you refute God’s own words?
Not only that, the above does NOT mean you don’t have to do good works. We are called to good works as a result of our salvation through Christ, not a means of attaining it.
Do you see the difference?
I did good works before I was saved. But the motive behind it was so that I could receive and enjoy the credit due me. Now that I am a Christian, I continue to do good works but now as an act of gratitude for what Christ did for me on the cross.
Get it? The glory goes to God, not me. That’s the way it should be.
If Mr Pickens became a Christian, he would do right to continue to do “good works”, if anything, increase them. There are more people on the earth that need to receive the gospel of Jesus Christ than there are horses to be saved.
